Standing Ovation for Greenside at FEDA 2026!

The curtains have fallen on the 2026 Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts (FEDA), but the applause for Greenside High School continues to echo through the halls of the Joburg Theatre.

In what can only be described as an extraordinary achievement, Greenside’s Dramatic Arts learners captivated audiences and adjudicators alike, earning an impressive array of nominations, Certificates of Excellence and Merit for their original productions, Seconds, Minutes, Ours and Ashes of a Promised Life.

Competing against some of Gauteng’s most talented young theatre-makers, Greenside received an outstanding nine trophy nominationsSeconds, Minutes, Ours was nominated for Best Soundscape, Best Lighting, Best Production Design and Technical Achievement, Best Choreography, Best Chorus and Best Ensemble, while both productions received nominations for Best Choreography, Best Chorus and Best Ensemble.

The accolades did not stop there.

Seconds, Minutes, Ours earned an exceptional eight Certificates of Excellence and Merit, including Excellence awards for Outstanding Ensemble Performance, Production Design, Lighting, Writing, Choreography and Chorus Work. The ensemble portraying “The Dunes” – Nontuthuko Mathonsi, Angela Onyekanihu, Hannah Sanjanjobo, Reatlegile Phatlane, Nyasha Muchena, Kaliah Madatt, Angelo Ezeh and Bohlokwa Ramadi – received special recognition for their powerful and evocative performance.

Ashes of a Promised Life also enjoyed tremendous success, receiving eleven Certificates of Excellence and Merit. Learners were recognised for excellence in Lighting Design, Ensemble Performance and Chorus Work, while numerous individuals were honoured for their contributions in Writing, Directing, Sound Design, Performance and Poster Design.

These remarkable achievements are a celebration of the passion, perseverance and creativity of our learners. From scriptwriting and directing to choreography, technical theatre and performance, our young artists demonstrated that theatre at Greenside is not merely an extracurricular activity – it is a space where innovation thrives and stories come alive.

A special word of congratulations must go to every cast member, director, designer, choreographer, technician and educator involved. The countless hours spent rehearsing, refining and reimagining have culminated in a spectacular showcase of artistic excellence.

Greenside High School is immensely proud of these talented learners who have once again demonstrated that courage, collaboration and creativity can produce extraordinary results.
