At Greenside High School, Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love—it’s a celebration of love, appreciation, and community that infiltrates every corner of the school. This year’s festivities, under the theme “Leap for Love”, brought together learners and staff for a day filled with heartfelt gestures, vibrant activities, and joyous camaraderie.
The spirit of love was ignited early in the month as Greenside High School kicked off February with a series of heartwarming events. During assemblies and breaks, learners embraced the opportunity to express their affection and appreciation for their friends and “better halves” through our infamous learner confessions feature.
On February 14th, Greenside High School came alive with excitement and anticipation as learners and staff gathered to celebrate in true Greenside fashion. The school hall was adorned with decorations reflecting the theme of “Leap for Love”, setting a festive atmosphere that permeated throughout the school.
One of the most touching aspects of the day was the exchange of heartfelt messages and treats among learners and staff. Grade Heads took the time to write personalized messages to each learner in their grade, accompanied by Valentine’s Day treats, fostering a sense of connection and appreciation among learners. Similarly, the Senior Leader body extended their gratitude to all Greenside High School staff members with personalized messages and chocolates, acknowledging their dedication and contributions to the school community. This gesture exemplified the love and mutual respect shared among members of the Greenside family.
The day’s festivities continued with a varied activities designed to engage and entertain learners. The Greenside High School Valentine’s Day Extravaganza, held in the school hall, showcased the diverse talents of learners through captivating performances that ranged from poetry, musical acts to dance routines. Meanwhile, learners had the opportunity to participate in fun activities such as a six-a-side soccer tournament and a sip ‘n paint feature, allowing them to express their creativity and athleticism.
Inside the hall, the annual Inter- House Quiz provided an intellectual challenge for learners as they competed for glory and bragging rights. After a spirited competition, Respect House emerged victorious, adding another chapter to their winning legacy.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, learners were treated to a musical extravaganza featuring performances by Greenside High School alumni and the talented DJ Mbali Vibes (Mbali Hlongwane, matric class of 2021). Her eclectic mix of music kept spirits high and toes tapping throughout the day, ensuring that the celebration was a memorable one for all our learners.
Behind the scenes, the success of the Valentine’s Day Celebration was made possible by the dedicated efforts of Mr. Masombuka and the Senior Leader. Their meticulous planning and organisation ensured that every aspect of the day’s events ran smoothly, allowing learners and staff to fully immerse themselves in the festivities.
As the day drew to a close, our school’s corridors echoed with laughter, music, and the echoes of cherished memories created throughout the day. “Leap for Love” was a celebration of friendship, unity, and the enduring bonds that define the Greenside High School community.
